Visiting the Avenue

To walk this path is to be surrounded by symbols of all that is noblest in humanity. It is an exalted atmosphere.

In Israel a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, Yad Vashem, is approached through an avenue of trees known as the Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles.

The idea of creating an Avenue of the Righteous in the United States was conceived in the mid 1980's and by 1987, our Avenue was dedicated on the grounds of the Civic Center in Evanston, Illinois.

Complete with flowering trees and evergreens, brick paths and benches, entrance markers and name plaques, this grove pays tribute to heroes who reside in the Midwestern part of the United States and Canada.

The grove is open to the public, 7 days a week and is located at:
Evanston Civic Center
2100 Ridge Avenue
Evanston, Illinois 60201

Please contact us at if you know of any Righteous Gentiles [or their family members] who currently reside in the midwest part of the U.S. and Canada so that we may honor their good deeds.
